Ubuntu 10.04LTS on Acer D255E - Card Reader ENE UB6250

Here's the problem, Mrs Six3Seven's Acer Aspire D255E netbook has a card reader that doesn't work.

There are some details in this bug report, and the solution can be found in comment #149.

To sum up, the manufacturer doesn't supply the details on it's archetecture, and this means someone would have to reverse engineer the driver. A similar netbook with the same card reader comes with Moblin, and Vladmir provided the initial solution with comment #116, but comments #149 is probably written better.

You'll need to be running 10.10. If  like her you are running 10.04LTS, you can change the settings in your update manager to included distro upgrades to include 'Normal Releases'. When you reload update manager, it will give you the option to upgrade to the new release.

The solution to the card reader issue consists of just three steps (four, if you need to install build-essentials)
  1. Download the script.
  2. Download the keucr driver.
  3. Run the script, it will reboot the computer.
Alternatively, there have been reports that 11.04 has fixed the issue, but there are an equal number of reports saying the opposite.
